WHAT IS THE WELCOMING HARRISONBURG COUNCIL?

The mission of the Harrisonburg Welcoming Council (WHC) is to build a thriving, inclusive community through advocacy, communication, and collaboration. The WHC is a community-led initiative that follows Harrisonburg City Council’s unanimous 2016 resolution to seek membership within the national Welcoming America Network.

• To be an advocate for continued welcoming work throughout Harrisonburg and surrounding areas in order to create a truly inclusive community.
• To act as a forum for stakeholders to discuss opportunities and challenges that may have immediate or long-range impact on the lives of the area’s newcomers.
• To foster strong communications and enhance collaboration, promote trust and help cultivate lasting connections between long-term residents and newcomers.
